Obama's America

It's late February. Primary season is winding down. John McCain, senator from Arizona is the nominee apparent for the Republican party.

On the democrat side, Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama are moving into the final stage of the contest. It could be decided on March 4th. I'm guessing that it will.

So, let's talk just a little bit about our man of the hour, Barak Obama.

There's the race narrative. I love that everybody's calling him "black" or "African American." Eventually people will figure out that he actually has both a white and black parent. In short, this man is an American. I look forward to when this is The Story.

I like that he's a deliberative team player. He seems to know who to go to for advice and can arrive at a wiser decision as a result. I read recently his position statement regarding the potential side-effects of an Iraqi invasion. It was critical of the invasion. This was written before the invasion actually began.

He predicted greater threats from terrorism arising from Iraq, increased resentment of American presence in the middle-east, and many of the other things that have actually happened.

He was able to do this because he was listening to experts in the field, not friends from the party or home-state. That's what I like about this guy. I like his process. That matters to me.

I can't know which position is the right one, but with some effort placed on the problem, anything can be workable. The key point is I believe that Obama can work with people. I perceive him as a team player and expert administrator too.

Getting elected is a good test of a candidate as an administrator while dealing with unusually high amounts of general stress. It really is nature's way of vetting the candidate and Barak's organization has been extremely effective. Amazingly so.

So, go Barak, you have my highest prayers with you. I really do believe that yes, we can.

Incidentally, it isn't Barak who put this hope in me. It was always there, but in my lifetime, I've never seen a presidential candidate who had so much potential to realize that hope. Most candidates are begrudgingly elected. Barak is someone I can vote for with a clear conscience.

Honestly, it's a pity that John McCain probably doesn't have a chance against Barak. John McCain is really a pretty good choice, though I wish he would have won eight years ago.

Gee Al, I don't really think that a political endorsement is proper on this blog at this time. There are other people who think that perhaps Barack is too good to be true. My own family remembers the time that swept Hitler into power. We remember that Hitler started out as a charismatic, and that he was elected with great fanfare and appeal by a people desperate for change at any cost. Now I'm not casting aspersions as to who or who is not Hitler. After all, we're still living through the Bush regime. I am simply saying that we live in such perilous times as that now.

It's the same old question to the same old play, the same old planets are circling the earth in the same old way, in position for the same old drama. War? Peace? To Be or Not to Be truly is the question. Are we for peace? Yes we are. Are we really ready to move forward? Yes we are.

They say you can judge a man by the company he keeps. I don't know all that much about Barak, other than that he is young, handsome, and a perfect 'hook' for the zeitgeist of the times. But because Barack has not yet shown me what he will do, I can only judge him by his associates, and Zbigniew Brzynski is a name that still haunts me from, was it the Nixon Administration? Yes, there is a manchurian candidate running. It is too soon to tell which one.

I judge Hilary by her works, and by her daughter, who, for all her being raised in the limelight, is in all respects as far as I can tell a wonderful human being. I can't say what is true about Obama at all, because he has not been on the scene long enough.

Each candidate has skeletons in the closet, because you don't come through old Chicago Politics if you don't, and Hillary's old bones have been trotted out ad nauseum for quite some time now. Most of them are gnawed clean these days.

I wish McCain had some of his old fire, and a little more of his integrity.

I ran into John Trudell the other day in the cafe. He has a lovely health care proposal which neither politician has, and he stated that both politicians platforms for health care would fail. He told me his, I'm paraphrasing here; women and children first. I think it is doable, and we the people need to work together to see it through. Check it out here; http://www.givelovegivelife.net

I asked John Trudell who he thought he'd like to see for president. He liked Barack too. I asked him what he thought about Barack misusing a Hopi Prophecy like that. He looked at me through his owlish eyes, and said "which one?" I said "he only used a piece of "We are the ones we are waiting for". You see, if you only have a piece of the prophecy, ya really shouldn't go slinging it around like a slogan. It's just not right. Anyway, I digress.

What John said to me next will always stay with me. "you have to remember", he said, "that all politicians lie. They may think they are telling themselves the truth, but they are still lying."

We need to remember this, and not get swept away by the zeitgeist. It IS a german word, after all. Fascism is clothed in the sweeping generalizations and golden oratory of the 'chosen one', the puppet in the brilliant limelight a perfect foil for darker distractions. We need heartfelt and conscious rational clarity right now, not another populistic Madison Avenue rush to the precipice .

Here's an idea for the world and the political party. Each candidate has said the other one is worthy. Let's have a constitutional provisional presidency with the both of them. We'll give them four years to work together to put their platforms in order. If we the people think it's a good thing, we'll either reelect them both, or one will outshine the other, or we'll throw da bums out of office. Either way, with the Office of Provisional President, we the people will have time to consider what's really best for the country.

I was going to post more on this later, I'm trying to finish pruning the grapes and getting ready for spring.
