I walked with you amongst the fields of golden hue,
our steps left no mark upon the mountain
childhood is brief,
and life left us no repose
you are close to the wind now,
way up on the mountain,
your body barely contains
your stubborn will to live
did you ever think your body would betray you
the way a bad lover leaves you
heart-broken and gasping for air?
maybe some loves are best left alone
it's the grapes left to rot upon the vine
that bring the sweetest Vintage
you stand on the precipice of eternity
you who never believed in the hereafter
does the Hereafter believe in you?
and will the deepening evening
gather you close, a welcoming Friend at last?
There were dark times between us
and things best left unsaid
and yet, I'll remember you and I
walked amongst the fields of golden hue
our steps left no mark upon the mountain
